What counts as project leadership experience?
PMI counts experience where you led project activities — not where you simply participated. You do not need a formal Project Manager title. Any of the following qualify, provided you can document the leadership component:

The 35 contact hours requirement
PMI requires 35 hours of formal project management education before you can apply. The most efficient way to fulfil this is through a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP). ATP programmes are audited by PMI, so your certificate is accepted directly — no additional documentation needed.

How PMI audits applications
PMI randomly selects approximately 10–15% of applications for audit. If you are selected, you receive an email with a 90-day window to gather and submit documentation. The audit process requires:

- 2.35-hour training certificate
- 3.Written statements from supervisors or clients for each project listed in your application, signed and sealed
