PMP Eligibility Requirements 2026:
Do You Qualify?

The exact PMI requirements for experience, education, and training hours — plus how to document your projects to avoid application errors.

Quick Answer

Two pathways: (1) 4-year degree + 36 months project leadership experience + 35 contact hours, or (2) High school diploma + 60 months project leadership experience + 35 contact hours. Experience must be within the last 10 years. Any industry counts.

Important — Effective Q4 2026

From late Q4 2026, PMI will only accept training hours completed through a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP). Non-ATP hours will not count toward the 35-hour requirement. 3FOLD Training is a verified PMI ATP — our certificate is accepted now and after this rule takes effect. ATP courses also require an 80% Knowledge Check before your completion certificate is issued (unlimited attempts, built into the course).

PMP Eligibility at a Glance

PMI sets clear, objective criteria for PMP eligibility. Unlike some certifications that require a specific number of years in a job title, PMP eligibility is based on actual project leadership experience — what you did, not what your title said.

The 35 Contact Hours Requirement
