Contact hours are hours of formal, structured project management education. They must cover project management topics specifically — general business or leadership training does not count. One contact hour equals one hour of instruction.
Why does PMI require them?
PMI uses the 35-hour requirement to ensure all PMP candidates have foundational training before sitting the exam. It ensures candidates understand the ECO domains, frameworks, and terminology before they are tested on them.

Does online training count?
Yes. PMI accepts live online training from an ATP as valid contact hours. Our sessions are delivered live on Zoom — not pre-recorded — with a PMI-certified instructor present throughout.
Important — Effective Q4 2026
From late Q4 2026, PMI will only accept training hours from a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP). Non-ATP hours will not satisfy the 35-hour requirement. 3FOLD Training is a verified PMI ATP. ATP courses also require an 80% Knowledge Check before your certificate is issued (unlimited retakes, built into the course).
