01

Think like a project manager, not a team member

Most PMP questions are situational. PMI wants to know what a competent, proactive project manager would do — not what you personally do at work. Focus on best practice, not habit.

02

Master the agile mindset before exam day

About 50% of exam questions involve agile or hybrid delivery. If you have only worked in predictive environments, you must study agile deeply — Scrum, Kanban, and servant leadership are all tested.

03

Eliminate wrong answers first

On situational questions, one or two answers are clearly wrong. Eliminate those first, then choose between the remaining options based on what PMI considers best practice.

04

Do not skip the pretest questions

10 of the 180 questions are unscored pretest items. You cannot tell which ones they are, so treat every question with equal focus. Never assume a hard question is just a pretest.

05

Practise 1,000+ questions before your exam date

Exposure to question volume builds pattern recognition. You will start to see PMI's preferred style of answer. Focus on understanding why the correct answer is correct — not just memorising it.

06

Take both optional breaks

You get two 10-minute breaks during the 240-minute exam. Take them both. Step away, breathe, and reset — it helps maintain focus and reduces errors in the final third of the exam.

07

Pace yourself: 77 seconds per question

240 minutes ÷ 180 questions = 77 seconds average. Flag and move on if stuck. Return to flagged questions during the remaining time. Never spend 4+ minutes on a single question.

08

Read the full question before looking at answers

Many candidates rush and miss a key qualifier — 'first', 'best', 'EXCEPT', 'MOST'. These words change the correct answer entirely. Read every word in the question before reading the options.
